The Concept

Mastering Phase Separation

Fractionation is a thermo-mechanical separation process used to divide fats into liquid and solid fractions. Our primary feedstock for this specialized process is RBD Palm Oil or RBD Palm Stearin (Refined, Bleached, and Deodorized).

By applying highly controlled cooling curves in our specialized crystallizers, we induce the crystallization of the higher-melting-point triglycerides (Stearin) while keeping the lower-melting-point triglycerides (Olein) in a liquid state.

What is Refractionation?

A secondary fractionation of the liquid or solid phase. By repeating the process, we achieve highly specialized derivatives like Super Olein (highly liquid, clear oil) or Hard Stearin (used for specialty fats and cosmetics).

The Fractionation Process

A fully automated sequence of heating, crystallizing, and membrane squeezing.

Heating & Homogenization

RBD Palm Oil or RBD Palm Stearin is heated significantly above its melting point to destroy any existing thermal memory and ensure a completely homogeneous liquid.

Heating destroys the natural crystal nuclei. Constant agitation prevents localized overheating.

Controlled Cooling

The melted oil or stearin enters our PLC-controlled crystallizers. Chilled water is circulated through cooling coils following a precise temperature curve.

Our crystallizers use unique agitator designs to promote heat transfer while preventing the newly formed delicate crystals from shattering.

Crystal Maturation

The slurry is held at a specific final cooling temperature. This allows the solid stearin crystals to grow into uniform, stable, and easily filterable shapes.

Membrane Filtration

The slurry is pumped into high-pressure membrane filter presses. The liquid Olein is pushed out, leaving behind a hard, solid Stearin cake.

The membrane plates inflate (squeezing) to force out maximum trapped liquid oil, drastically increasing the yield of valuable Olein.
